In the Canal (ITC) Hearing Aids

Natural Sound

We offer a wide range of In The Canal (ITC) as well as Completely In Canal (CIC) style hearing aids. While ITC Hearing Aids also fit inside of the ear canal, they are slightly larger than CIC models.

Benefits of In-The-Canal Hearing Aids

  • ITC hearing aids are custom made for individual ear size and shape.
  • They are small enough to fit almost entirely in your ear canal, making them hardly noticeable. No external parts that can be seen, making them very discreet.
  • The quality of sound is very natural as it uses the acoustics of your own ear canal.
  • The slightly larger face plate of ITC devices means that some models can have adjustable volume controls and microphones that can make them more precise and more convenient in different environments.

Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that getting your first hearing aid is a turning point in your hearing aid journey. You will have many questions and the Hearing Loss Specialists are on hand to answer any queries or concerns you may have. Please read the FAQ section below to find the answers to the most common questions asked about In the Canal hearing aids.

Q: How Are ITC Hearing Aids Fitted?

A: Since ITC hearing aids fit inside your ear canal, a customised fit is necessary for proper comfort.

The process involves a soft silicone material slowly inserted into the ear canal while you hold very still. The silicone slowly hardens, and is then removed and the hearing aid is then made in the same shape and size. The process can feel a little strange, but it is not uncomfortable in any way.

Q: How Do I Insert My ITC Hearing Aids?

A: First check that you’re putting your left hearing aid into your left ear, and vice versa. They are individually programmed and fitted. Gently press the tip of the hearing aid into your ear canal. Pull your ear lobe back to make space in your ear canal and gently press the hearing aid into place. Your Hearing aid specialist will show you how to insert the hearing aids correctly.

Q: How Do I Remove My ITC Hearing Aids?

A: Some models of ITC hearing aids have a small handle or antenna that you can use to help remove them from your ear. For models that do not, remove the hearing aid by taking the hard part of your ear lobe in your fingers and pushing it up. Move your jaw as if you were chewing at the same time. This will push the hearing aid out of your ear canal and make it easy to hold onto.

Q: Can I Shower or Swim with My ITC Hearing Aids In?

A: Most modern hearing aids are water resistant, meaning that small amounts of water, like the moisture found naturally in your ear, or a little bit of rain, shouldn’t hurt them. You should always take them out when you shower or swim and store them safely in the hard case provided.
