We understand that getting your first hearing aid is a turning point in your hearing journey. You will have many questions and the Hearing Loss Specialists are on hand to answer any queries or concerns you may have. Please read the FAQ section below to find the answers to the most common questions asked.

Q. How often should I see my Specialist for a check up?

A. Following the initial fitting of your hearing aids, we will see you weekly or fortnightly for as many visits as required until you are comfortable with your new hearing aids. Generally, we will then ask you to return at 3 months and 6 months post fitting. After this time a yearly checkup is recommended. At Hearing Loss Specialists there is no cost for these visits.

Q. What should I do if I am having trouble adjusting to my hearing aids?

A. Contact our hearing aid specialist for advice and adjustments. 

Q. What if my hearing aids are hurting my ears?

A. Please always advise us if this is the case, there are different options the Specialist can use to eliminate this issue.

Q. How do I care for my new hearing aids?

A.

  • Keep hearing aids away from heat and moisture.
  • Clean hearing aids as instructed.
  • Avoid using hairspray or other hair care products while wearing hearing aids.
  • Turn off hearing aids when they are not in use by opening the battery compartment. If you have the rechargeable option, simply pop them into the charger when you are not wearing them.
  • Replace dead batteries immediately.
  • Store hearing aids in a dry, cool place when not in use. Such as in the hard case provided or in the charging unit if they are rechargeable hearing aids.

Q. Help, I am having trouble changing my domes on my hearing aids!

A. No need to Stress about this! Feel free to come and see our friendly, helpful staff at Hearing Loss Specialists, where we will be happy to assist you. We can change the domes and replace the filters for you or we can show you how to do this yourself. You can see us as often as you need until you are comfortable with the routine maintenance of your new hearing aids.
